Thanksgiving Day Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in the U.S. on thefourth Thursday of November and on the second Monday of October in Canada.First, a group of European immigrants were heading to North-Virginia (of thattime), but they ended up in Cape Cod due to a sea storm. This happened in the latefall of 1620. This company grounded a town called Plymouth. They weren’t ableto start farming or raising their own food because of the cold weather so theystarved of a huge famine. Many people died. In the spring time, a local Indianchief named Massasoit helped the newcomers by giving them food and teachingthem to raise their own food correctly. Next autumn the new Americans and localIndians joined to celebrate and eat together on a traditional Indian party of givingthanks for the blessing of the harvest of the previous year. This common supper isconsidered to be the origin of the Thanksgiving Day we know today.      Nowadays families get together on athanksgiving day to eat for example turkey, corn and pumpkin pies. Thanksgivingis a national holiday (in fact even for a couple of days). It is the mostimportant family-holiday in U.S.A, even more important than Christmas.
