Osborne House
1. ____________ Osborne House is located on the Isle of Wight, overlooking the sea. A beautiful Italian- style stately home, it was the holiday home of Queen Victoria and her family.
2. _____________ Osborne House has been kept almost exactly as it was when Queen Victoria lived and died there. The rooms are full of the Queens personal possessions, including pictures and books. Visitors can also see how the Royal Family spent their leisure time. In the grounds there is a Swiss cottage designed as a playhouse for the royal children, as well as beautiful gardens open to the public.
3. ______________ One of the jewels of Osborne House is the Durbar Room. The beautifully decorated walls and ceiling were made by Indian craftsmen. this room was where Victoria entertained heads of state, but it was also where her children used to perform plays for their parents.
4. __________ Queen Victoria saw Osborne House as her home, and its privacy was an escape from the formal atmosphere of Buckingham Palace. Today it stands as a memorial to Britain’s much- loved and longest reigning queen.
