The United Kingdomis a country located in northwest Europe. It is officially called the UnitedKingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is made up of England, Wales,Scotland, and Northern Ireland. London is the capital Of the United Kingdom. Thename United Kingdom dated back to 1707, when the parliaments of England andScotland were united to form single country.  The country is rn by a Queen or King, a PrimeMinister, and two Houses of Parliament, the House of Commons and the House ofLords. The United Kingdom has been a member of the European Union since 1973.
