Think about peoples lives 50 year ago. What did people use to have instead of todays modern devices?

Peoples lives have changed a lot because of... People used to have ... instead. Now they use ... Its much more convenient / fast / economical / pleasant .. But its less natural / beautiful / healthy.
In the place of the modern things 50 years ago people used light candles and torches instead of the TV and computers back because then there was no any.
